6 days later since Jim Thornton began announcing, the viewers finally get have their say now that his was added to the CBS.com announcer poll. Plinko returns for someone to have a chance to win $10,000+ and Dustin was that contestant we were looking for. I have no doubts that 1/4 of regular Price viewers pronounce the name Danielle as "Danny El" thanks to Bob. Diane successfully won Hit Me without first picking a product with the correct price displayed.

Jim Thornton’s announcing gaps are becoming more noticeable. Representative of Mary Anna, Arkansas (Population 6000) and Grand Game champ Rita reminded me of another well-known lady from the Southeast region. If you’re a regular viewer of Game Show Network’s (excuse me, GSN, why must these cable channels make an acronym their official name?) reruns of Match Game PM/AM/Syndication (73-81), you should know whom I’m speaking of. It’s now safe to predict that Candace shall remain in the modeling position for many years to come after viewing today’s show. The lovely Tracy of “Casey and Tracy” (in conjunction with “Rita and Rita”) didn’t need help from the same audience that would later moan and groan after her decision to switch prices in “Switch?”. Anna the Cat was brought to the eyes of the audience viewing her big green eyes. Laura was part of a group from Ohio, since she wore the “H” shirt in that particular group known through out the show as “OIO” ‘til the very end. After 6 wins in a row, today’s show is the 68th perfect show in Price history. We caught the turntable in rotation after the bid for Showcase #2 was placed. We end today’s show with Laura and the rest of her group reunited as “OHIO”.

I sense small improvement in Jim Thornton’s announcing, but he’s still got a long way to go to reach the announcing of Rich Fields, Randy West, and Art Sanders. Two of the first 4 contestants are Happy and Brooke. One of the contestant coordinators must have been watching USA Network’s airings of the edited version of Happy Gilmore one too many times. Gayanne was so close to that $500 bonus, but missed at the last putt line. Sarah is the latest addition to the short line of contestants who won Bonkers on the first try. This time we witnessed nice and slow play, along with excellent knowledge of spa prices. Gayanne won $6000 on the Big Wheel during a Spinoff/Bonus Spin, yet she didn’t make it to the Showcase. After Bob avoided possible injury by an electric scooter driven by the “Great Haired One” Teri, Happy escaped Contestant’s Row thanks to a bid of $2500. He was probably in his “happy place” during Jim’s description of the scooter. My goodness, Michelle bid $100 on that heart listener featured in Cliffhangers, creating her foreseeable fate (missed by $75). Wonder if he did that on purpose to create an historic moment?

Well folks after many weeks of anticipation by the biggest of Price viewers, Million Dollar Spectacular #9 finally arrived on our screens shortly after the NCAA Tournament. College/University students check, theme décor check (Kappa Price is Right flag for example, including the mural on stage representing all colleges across the land), Randy West as announcer check, the return of Claudia Jordan including Shane & Brandi check, and the $1 million winner remains unchecked. It took two calls of Jana Savage and a brief stop of the music for her to finally come on down to Contestant’s Row. Joy lived up to her name during tonight’s playing of Plinko, even though she was nowhere near a total of $20,000+. Not only the trip to Fiji was revealed, but also Brandi’s dancing in traditional Fiji clothing caught our eye off guard. We learn that during a commercial break Bob was encouraged by the audience to quote his famous line from the well-known movie “Happy Gilmore”. This explains the quite large outburst from the audience after the break. Bob would later discover that Lauren is female while seeing her come on down and asking himself a “He or She” type question. Derek rolled up his sleeves before going for the chance of winning $1 million with a spin of the Big Wheel, yet his chance went overboard in cents. A small graduation preview was the feature for Showcase #2, including Claudia, Brandi, and Shane in blue cap ‘n gowns. After Jacob’s Showcase win, he received a free chance of spinning the Big Wheel for $1 million. No $1 million, unfortunately.


We end today’s show with a friend of Jacob’s. Possibly after missing the $1.00 by one spot on the wheel.

Will Million Dollar Spectacular #10 be the one! Fine out in the foreseeable future.

In the meantime, I’ll be putting this VHS tape with tonight’s show back in the 500 Video Archives ‘til future use (Half-hour Price from the early Seventies airs after the Pillsbury Bakeoff this year).

Goodbye Don Bishop, hello Jim Thornton, you’re the next announcer up for the position on the Price is Right! 80 year old Irene proves that not everyone pays with his or her own money for the trip to Price. Could have Michelle’s version of “Ladies, do I have (insert) number(s) right” been a sign her eventual lost? Nope, I don’t think so. $6000 was enough to make up for Johnny’s lost playing It’s In The Bag. Only $2000 more! All it took was one bid for Retta to make it up on stage, not a “baretta”. Introducing, the latest super human creation from Price, Rachel as the Prizeinator! Looks like Price’s association with ACME Inc. is over after the incident with the ACME Wine, which became a wine rack thanks to the model-turned Prizeinator. Unfortunately, both of today’s Showcases were victims of who I suppose is Miss My Way’s #1 enemy. We end today’s show with not only Bob’s handshakes and waves from Teri and Candace, but with a few “Mission: Accomplished” poses by Rach…er I mean Prizeinator. Tomorrow, $1 million may be won on in primetime after the NCAA Tournament!

Mr. Don Bishop was almost back to his old self a while ago (gave me a few laughs), but got back on track while calling the lovely Elizabeth to come on down. Lets see, Deana managed to explain the Range Game while catching her breath, said that it takes 1 year to start the range again, attempted to press the red button before the game even began, and celebrating her win by doing an almost outrageous act in front of Bob. Candidate for contestant of the year, in my opinion! 10 seconds later after Don’s call to come on down, David finally arrived to Contestant’s Row with a couple of hugs with the remaining female contestants (Elizabeth and Lindsay). David was so close to $10,000 if it weren’t for that chip getting stuck. And now a Gospel performance by Mba (pronounced “Umba”) and the rest of his group representing Duke University. Shortly after that performance, Mba made it up on stage for a playing of “$2.00” Check Out. Once again, another contestant made an attempt to get on stage before even bidding and that would be Georgia Bulldogs fan Mary (hence the “G” logo). I’d like the see a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide try that someday.

Don Bishop may have improved in announcing, but what he doesn’t show “behind the voice” could eventually tire the viewers if Price chooses him as the new announcer. “Go Navy!” quoting Bob after Nicolas’ victory playing Eazy az 1, 2, 3. After three powerful punches, one “Second Chance”, and a quite suspenseful build up by Bob, we learn that Renee has won $10,050 on the famous Punchboard. Suggestion to Bob, check with the record keepers more often, since this was not the second time $10,000+ was won. Guess Trevor Roe’s win of $10,500 is more memorable than previous wins. The forth digit “1” was responsible for the Kasey and John’s losses. Even after asking the judges if she’s won and quickly getting the “lost buzzer”, Jacqueline was still glad to fulfill her lifelong dream. John was the audience favorite from beginning to the very end! Today’s Showcase #1 featured some fun for our choppers, especially Bob and Kasey’s, a year’s supply of Krispy Kreme donuts. We end today’s show with John’s arms up in an “it’s good” gesture, as you would see at a football event.

Before racing for his life (and prizes) in the fun Race Game, Karl presented Bob a green “Bob is Gorgeous” shirt. Speaking of “gorgeous”, coming on down to Contestant’s Row with binoculars was the “Great Haired One” Teri. Struggling actress and loyal friend & true Lindsay would later share with Bob her memory of when she received an autographed photo of him, which was around the 3rd grade. With help from daughter Katie in the audience, Norris was able to win his way up to $4000. $1000 is only the beginning of what Lindsay would receive in this world-renowned part of California. Today’s Showcase #2 was “Ripped from the Headlines” of the Price is Right News(paper). Remember, Saturday, 9/8 CST, Million Dollar Spectacular #9, only on CBS!

After a week of reruns, we learn that Don Bishop is still announcing. His shouts of “come on down” may have improved, but his “Bobbbbbbbbbbbbbb Barker!” still gives me a good laugh! Nothing wrong with a good laugh, but would I laugh if he’s chosen as Rod’s successor? Plus, he still hesitates before describing a prize. As a TV set was brought out for today’s playing of Temptation by Georgia Bulldogs fan Carrie, Bob brings up a moment in Price history when a set actually fell to the floor. “Brothers got to hug”, quoting Brent before hugging Bob after winning his way up on stage. Michelle was in dangerous territory searching for the last two digits in the Ford Focus’ price before going for the first two digits. For reasons unknown, Carly’s last name was written down as “Lewis” instead of “Ellis”, which caused a 10-second delay for her to come on down. “Madam X” is what Bob referred to Carly as when it was time for bids. This Saturday’s 9th Million Dollar Spectacular (featuring the final appearance of Claudia Jordan, who we would later learn is not so lovely via a rather blunt interview) was promoted at last, along with CBS’ coverage of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, in Bob’s unique way of course. Showcase #2 featured the two famous Spade/Neuter stamps in the size of a large painting.


This weekend’s special could really live up to the name “Million Dollar Spectacular”! In case you don’t get what I’m getting at, just set the VCR for Saturday at 9/8 Central Standard Time. History could be made, if only “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire” didn’t make millionaires out of almost 10 folks (nothing against “Millionaire”, an excellent program with the right host)

Another day, another historical show, 99 year old James (oldest contestant in the show’s history) gets the royal treatment coming on down, no time limit during Switcheroo, and Bob plays for him! We’ll probably never know what Natalie whispered to Bob after her win.

Well folks, this week is "Spring Break" for Price, in other words it's a week of reruns. Not only that, this site is in reruns (if you're a loyal reader and true, you know what to expect) ! This week is also the perfect time to hear some of the other announcers up for a the position on the show. I've noticed last Friday's Don Bishop being added to the CBS.com announcer poll, so click your way there to vote as the competition continues to heat up. Sort of weird it had to be this particular show (fun to the very last drop, until the double overbid), because it was the beginning of what would be my reign of posting at The Price is Right Blog. Rich Fields is out and Don Bishop is in! Know what we viewers get, many days of suffering under those Paul Boland-like tones of his. Thank goodness for the power of laughter that helped me get through the pain that was Don’s announcing. Expect his votes in the CBS.com announcer poll to be very low. Brian of Virginia wore a “Bob Barker/Happy Gilmore for President” shirt for today’s show. Kimberly thought she doesn’t do well when being timed, but she successfully proved herself wrong. Bob literally turned James around to show the entire audience his shirt proving he’s from Memphis, Tennessee (or MempJames, since his nametag was blocking the “his”). We’ve had another fan of the Dice Game and that would be its latest winner under the interesting name Araceli. This ought to make some Alabama Crimson Tide fans feel uneasy, Anna happens to be a Georgia Bulldogs fan. We end today’s show with resident beautify Araceli as today’s Showcase winner with a difference bellow $1000. See y’all next week!

Nicole representing a group of school-teachers shows off her skills of being hyperactive on her way to Contestant’s Row. Craig had something else on mind other than two items up for bids and that would be Teri. I’m sure it was the full head of hair that got him. Richardson Fields pronounced Emile’s name “Emily”, almost creating a big situation in the hands of Price. Looks like Ruklanthi and Walburga finally have male competition for “Contestant Name of the Year”. Craig escaped Contestant’s Row without distraction, but ends up seeing Teri once again, this time in the driver seat of a Ford Taurus. I wonder if the excellence of Teri’s hair played a part in Craig lost in That’s Too Much (preventing a perfect show)? No, I wouldn’t blame a model for a contestant’s lost, but in Craig’s case. And now, a small performance starring Angela and Craig as the Showcase Showdown presents “The Pot Hole Fix”. That was one worthy of the title “Priceless Moment”. Get ready for moments considered “Priceless” as the long delayed 9th Million Dollar Spectacular airs later this month in primetime. This could possibly be the one someone wins $1 million!

It’s a pleasure to hear the tones of Richardson Fields again, along with the dancing of rough and tough Miesha on her way to Contestant’s Row. Reason I consider her rough and though you ask? We almost had a brawl between her and Muriel over his bid being $1 more than hers on that refrigerator. By the way, Candace and Teri were behind the refrigerator doors before revealing themselves to the weary eyed Price viewers. I know I am after seeing the grinning Lanisha yesterday. During today’s playing of Punch-A-Bunch, Bob wished audience member Rachel a happy birthday. I must agree with Bob referring to her as a pretty girl, very true indeed. It took about 3 tries ‘til the braided haired, yet still rough and tough Miesha finally made it up on stage. Murlane’s husband in the audience seemed very relaxed after her lost. Probably glad he was not the one on stage playing One Away. Don’t worry, Murlane promised not to get angry with him. Blackjack player Krystin was afraid she wouldn’t get the Big Wheel all the way around (boos from the audience at this point), but spun it successfully anyway. Somewhat, it was also embarrassing for Krystin since Murlane was first to spin the wheel, proving that not all old age contestants need help. An even total of $20,000 in prizes would have been interesting for Muriel if only a certain prize in Swap Meet was priced differently. We end today’s show with Muriel resting his arms on Candace and Rachel as they walked the stage.

Rich Fields gone, Roger Rose in, and I still think he sounds similar to an announcer a while back (Clue, last name is Boland). In addition to putting up with Roger for the next few shows, we have the grinning Lanisha again. Contestant shirts included today are Naseem’s classic “Hi Mom” and Aaron’s interesting countdown in seconds from birth to today’s show. In other words, it was Aaron’s birthday that day. Katherine got the price of the first product exactly right and you know what that means? Of course you do, but for those who don’t know, that means she wins all 3 cards. Speaking of 3s, it took 3 times for Leon to say he’s really ready for Time is Money. Nice “lightborder shot” of Leon and his folks celebrating! We are reminded today that a good knowledge of geography can help contestants win trips. Eleanor got to show her love for Bob while in Contestant’s Row earlier in the show. Too bad she didn’t make it up on stage.

(Burton) Richardson “Rich” Fields continues to show off his announcing skills. Bob brings up an “Items Up for Bids” with a surfboard from many moons ago involving this lady bidding $9000. Luckily, nobody bid that before Bob told us this tale. It was a real struggle getting from “1” to “2” during Ellen’s playing of Cover Up. Looks like the folks at the dormitories are the only ones that are happy that Jeffrey didn’t win the drum set. Introducing, Troy the Dog (Ellen and Troy, that would be an interesting combination)! Even with Bob suggesting that Katherine shouldn’t worry about the mathematics, she still added $1000 to her bid for a Ford Focus after picking the all-important ace. We went from 5 cents to a tie of 95 cents in Showcase Showdown #2. It’s “Monday Morning” on CBS and here again is Little Teri (in skirt and has more hair) showing off the art of today’s first Showcase prizes (Trip to Ireland, Motorcycle, and Boat). I wonder what Charles Osgood’s take on the artwork would be?

Bob asks future dentist Gregory about the current condition of his teeth, but quickly moves on to the Check Game. Amazing, he went over $6000 by only $20! Oh well, the check wasn’t fit to be in the bank in its condition anyway (crossed out number and such). Mark of the Navy’s assignment: Walk the path of “Numeral Waters” to a Dodge Caravan. Assignment: Failed! Both Gregory and Amanda ended up with nickels on the Big Wheel. As the price of the sofa was revealed again, part of the sign broke as Candace revealed it. Yep, she should definitely stay with the show! As Dana walked up on stage to play It’s In The Bag, viewers can hear a clear as a whistle “wolf whistle”. I wonder if that “Property of Bob Barker” (not really, or is it?) sweater added to Dana’s beauty some how? Frederick, former General Motors employee, from Salem, Ohio (Population 30,000 – 1, the minus was him on that day), asked the audience for agreement on the second number being higher than 5. Mark’s final mission was to deliver 12 Monopoly board games to the Las Vegas Naval Office in a brand new convertible. Mission: Success!

We began today’s journey into the excellence that is Price with the vocal tones of Richardson Fields (AKA Rich Fields). Almost forgot, goodbye Roger Rose, you’ll be missed, but to most loyal Price viewers your voice won’t be. The lovely Candace returns to Television City and I mean it when I typed “lovely” (like last Friday when referring to contestant Ashley). It took about 5 seconds for Bob and Sheila to realize that the game was won, even though the safe was still locked. I guess Bob telling her to keep turning left and right effected the giant safe. Surprise! The same Sheila happens to work for our head of state, otherwise known as Bush. Could this be the same Bush that’s responsible for most of Price’s pre-emptions? She gave Bob a gift with the presidential seal included during Showcase Showdown #1. Jared, the audience’s most loved contestant today won himself one of the show’s most rarest prizes, a $500 bonus from winning the Shell Game for picking the shell with the ball on the first try. Dorothy had it in the bag after picking 16 in Money Game, creating a no loss situation, but she just had to pick a number ending with 0. A win of $6000 on the Big Wheel made up very much for Dorothy’s lost in Money Game. “Electric Guitar Corporation” provided the music for the trips to London and Bangkok, in other words the music for those trips were done by electric guitar. As Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan once said, “excellent!” Dorothy whispered something to Bob after her Showcase win, but we’ll probably never know what she said. Andrew showed loyalty and true before receiving the chance to play the big favorite among Price viewers, $50,000 ($1500 today) Plinko. For the second time in year 32, Race Game was completed on the first try! Bob discovered 3 pronunciations of Rita, who remained in Contestant’s Row ‘til the very end. Ri Ta and Roe Ta are among those pronunciations. Joshua would later reveal to Bob via whisper that he would only bring along his father to Spain. Another fast and furious contestant, that would be Beverly of course! Rita had the chance to show her love of the show and Bob incase she doesn’t make it up on stage. The “Upgrade Showcase” (Jean won this one) included an upgrade from a Gameboy to an arcade cabinet. I expected the upgrade to be an NES.

Our journey after show 6000 begins with a walk of The Golden Road by Navy rep. Timothy. Julie was almost on a path of one right number at a time during today's playing of Cover Up, yet she still lost. By the end of today's show, I almost had a craving for some taffy, thanks to one certain contestant. Julie managed to win her way into today's Showcase even after losing Cover Up. There was a $100 difference with the Showcase bids ($11,500 for Taffani and $11,600 for Julie). Julie was quick on her feet to that snowmobile!

Here it is, from somewhere in the world, a review of TV’s most exciting hour of fantastic prizes, the fabulous 60-minute 6000th Price is Right! Who would have thought that from the moment that Amy was called to come on down by Roger Rose (chances of him still announcing between shows 6001-10,000 are very low) that she would have the biggest prize total in the history of the show? Freemantle’s (Cheapmantle, or Pierce ‘N Dismantle) executive Syd joined in on today’s show congratulating the entire crew of Price, including Bob. No comedy routine this time, folks. Expect old Syd to be back at the beginning of year 33. Joanne happens to be the only one that does the shopping, so she guided Thomas to a win of $4000. David and I share the same favorite game, Dice Game. Our winning showcase featured references to 1972 (Mad TV did something similar a couple of weeks ago)! We end show #6000 with not 1, but 4 cakes! Plenty for half of the studio, don’t you think? Tomorrow is the beginning of a new countdown, the countdown to show #10,000. We’ll be covering it in the 2030s, if not before!
